Sweeping lockdowns have threatened an estimated 8.51 million daily-wage workers from being able to provide for their families. Roughly 45% of them would be the first to be laid off; this would affect over 3 million people across Pakistan. Teach My Nation is working diligently to help alleviate the hardships of daily wage workers and low income families during this difficult time.
Teach My Nation COVID-19 Response: Currently, there are 13,915 confirmed cases in Pakistan (as reported on April 28, 2020) which have resulted in a lockdown of a majority of businesses including private and public sector offices, local shops, and academic institutions. Teach My Nation, as always, has stepped forward to address the needs of daily wage workers and other vulnerable families with food support, medical support, accompanied by In-Kind donations of medical equipment to government health administrations including PPE kits for frontline responders.
As of April 29, Teach My Nation distributed 8500 food rations, 8707 PPEs, and over 1500 In-Kind hospital supplies.
Over a Decade of Service: Allah say in Surah Tawbah verse 60, “Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler – an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.”
